Who runs the site and why

Vaasa Suppliers is run by a local entrepreneur in Vaasa, in a personal capacity. The data center projects in the GigaVaasa area are bringing thousands of construction workers to a region of about 115,000 people, and the people arranging their housing and services search online in English. Local companies that could serve them are hard to find that way, and much of what is found is intermediaries.

This site closes that gap with a curated directory of companies that asked to be listed and want to be contacted, and with practical guides written for the specific situation of a temporary construction workforce. The site is designed to be handed over to a regional organisation once the need is proven.

Not an official service

The site is independent. It is not an official service of the City of Vaasa, VASEK, Merinova or any other organisation, and it does not speak for the construction projects. The official services that newcomers should know are linked from the home page: the Welcome Office of the City of Vaasa, the VASEK directory of regional companies, and InfoFinland.

What the site does not do

• It does not rank, recommend or endorse companies. Lists are alphabetical, and a listing is not an endorsement.
• It does not check the quality, prices or legality of any provider. The review before publishing checks that the company exists in the business register and that its contact details work, nothing more. Buyers of contract work in Finland have their own checking duties.
• It does not book, does not take a commission and does not stand between you and the company. Requests sent through the capacity form are forwarded, and the providers reply directly.
• It does not report on the construction projects themselves.

If the owner’s own company is ever listed, the card says so.

Privacy notice

Controller. The controller of the personal data processed through this site is the site owner named above.

What is collected. The site sets no cookies and uses no tracking. Personal data is collected only when you send one of the two forms:

• The listing form: company name, business ID, description, category, languages, municipality, public contact details, and, if given, the name of a contact person. This data is collected to publish the listing.
• The capacity request form: your company, your name and role, your email and phone number, and what you need. This data is collected to forward the request.

Forwarding. A capacity request, including your contact details, is forwarded by email to the accommodation providers that match it, so that they can reply to you directly. The form asks for your consent to this.

Publication and transfer. Listing data is published on this site in both languages and appears in the site’s public source code repository. When the site is handed over to a new owner, the listing data is transferred with it. The listing form asks for your consent to both. Descriptions are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

Who processes the data. Form submissions are delivered by a third-party form service and stored in the owner’s mailbox. The site is hosted on a static hosting service. If analytics are used, they are cookie-free and do not identify visitors.

How long. Capacity requests are deleted twelve months after they were received. Listing data is kept as long as the listing is published, and removed from the published site when the listing is removed. Removed entries remain in the public version history of the source code repository unless the owner rewrites it; this is why the site asks for role contacts rather than personal names.

Your rights. You can ask what data the site holds about you, have it corrected or removed, and withdraw your consent, by emailing the address in the footer. If you are not satisfied with the answer, you can complain to the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman.
